Handmade Cyanotype Bookmark (Imperfects) - Set of 2

Sale Price: £5.00 Original Price: £8.00

These cyanotype printed bookmarks are completely handmade from scratch! Printed in Natalie’s tiny garden with deadstock cotton canvas and a grossgrain ribbon detail each bookmark is unique. They are hand-stitched with care - no machine sewing and no mass production.

The process of first dyeing the fabric with chemicals, then letting it dry for a day and of course having to wait on a sunny day in rainy Yorkshire means the process for each bookmark takes time. Once the sun has activated the chemicals, the fabric is then brought inside and washed in cold tap water until all the chemicals are washed out and just the “stain” remains. The blue colour needs 24 hours to fully oxidise before I can iron it and get started on cutting and sewing the bookmarks.

Cyanotype is a printing technique invented at the dawn of photography by Sir John Herschel in 1842. Using a mixture of 2 chemicals he discovered sun and shadow could create photo negatives on paper, fabric and wood.

Please note these are the imperfects that didn’t pass my quality control. The “perfects” will be available first at PASCIFY, Harrogate, on April 11th 2026. Any leftover stocks will be available on my website after April 11th.

Price is for a set of 2 bookmarks.
